PEX pipe is considered easy to install, or at least much easier to install than rigid piping like PVC or copper. In today’s blog article, we are going to talk about some of the reasons why PEX is so much easier to install.
Weight
The first consideration is weight. PEX or cross-linked polyethylene is much lighter than the rigid counterparts. What this means for installation is that it is easier to carry around and comes in long runs. There will be fewer man hours required just to get the pipe where it needs to be because it is lighter and simpler to transport.
Flexible and Forgiving
The installation of PEX is more forgiving because of its flexibility. Fewer joints will be needed, and the pipe can be snaked around awkward areas, which would require multiple joints with a rigid piping system.
Joining
Joining lengths of PEX is easier than for rigid pipe. PEX does not require soldering, gluing, or welding. This means that fewer tools are required to make joints, and there are decreased risks of the fire associated with welding and soldering.
Routing
Routing the pipe is easier because PEX comes already in long runs that can go from manifold to fixture. One does not have to anticipate—and bring to the job site--all the different T joints and elbows needed in traditional rigid piping. This cuts down on the time associated with installation and is easier both for the professional installer as well as the DIY’er.
There is no doubt that PEX has multiple advantages over more traditional rigid pipe. This is why it is often chosen as the best solution in repiping situations.
